Interaction Designer, Washington, D.C. area

We are looking for an Interaction Designer and usability specialist. We produce tools and databases that microbiologists and physicians use to conduct research and keep up-to-date with their fields.

The candidates for this position should be able to perform the following duties:
  • User Analysis
    • Interview and observe users as they work;
    • Develop user models (personas) and task models (scenarios);
    • Define user requirements based on the research and models;
    • Define and test information architectures;
  • User Interface Design
    • Design screen templates and navigation patterns for an entire site;
    • Design mockups (wireframes) of individual screens;
    • Conduct usability tests, walkthroughs, and heuristic evaluations to guide design;
    • Produce UI specifications developers can use to code;
    • Write and maintain UI style guides;
    • Keep up to date with current web trends and UI design best practices;

Graphic design, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript knowledge is a plus but is not a core part of the job - this position is about how users understand and interact with our software.

Qualifications:
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant subject (Psychology, Information Science, Human Factors, etc.);
  • At least 5 years experience in the interface design and usability field;
  • Have good communication skills (someone who serve as a bridge between developers and subject matter experts);
  • Don't post embarrassing things on Facebook;
